RE: Men's Health, Curing Cancer, Internet Marketing, Meaning of Life
SPECIAL NOTEWas sorry to hear Todd's amazing wife Wendy was just diagnosed with breast cancer. I made three suggestions. I shared my Cancer Sucks Mostly note (written for another friend after she found out she had breast cancer), suggested Wendy Read Eckhart Tolle and Pema Shodron (which it sounds like she already does) and don't forget LAUGHTER and ROMANCE (more important now than ever).
Hardest thing to grasp if you are a spouse is to CHANGE AS LITTLE AS possible. Sounds crazy I realize. Everything is going to and will change, but the cancer journey isn't a short one. Diagnosis, treatment and analysis can take years. No one can stay in "crisis mode" that long so don't try.
I shared how I wandered around every stage of Kubler-Ross' five stages (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance) for years after my leukemia diagnosis. Planning for Martin's Ride To Cure Cancer, our bicycle ride across America helped snap me back into the now, helped me reach acceptance. Reminds me of something P&G taught me back in the day - Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan.
Planning is an action. Planning requires concentration. You can't plan the future (much). You can form ideas about what you want to accomplish, but you form those ideas in this moment. By preparing for Martin's Ride my NOW went from sulking depression to action (something I'm better at anyway lol). The fact we used almost NONE of my plans on Martin's Ride is moot. Those early plans served their purpose - getting me to plan my work and work my plan :).
PS. Kudos to Wendy and Todd for sharing their journey. Stories is what will cure cancer. Every journey shared brings the day we cure cancer closer. Still takes COURAGE to say, "I have cancer".
