Top Consulting Firms Get It
Top consulting firms can be a great source of information. McKinsey, BCG and Bain all share great information and insight. Today I took a quick run through the top 20 consulting firms websites with surprising results.
General Findings of Top Consulting Firms Websites
- More visual, less copy.
- More real, less canned.
- More conversational, less "corporate speak".
- More social, less lecture.
- More walk, less talk re: Internet marketing.
Not hard to see how rapidly these battleships are changing course.
Boring canned photography is DOWN in favor of spontaneity and more candid REAL look and feel designs. These firms are RELAXING and that is saying something since many of these top consulting firms started as accounting firms where "relax" wasn't on the menu.
Conversations and authenticity require relaxing some. Perfection's tyranny is where these firms lived. Problem is the audience (us in other words) can see behind the curtain now making any curtain a poor shield, a bad smoke screen.
In Unzipped Isaac Mizrahi places a transparent screen between models and audience. Mizrahi's bold statement is apropos. Internet marketing takes place behind a similar transparent screen. What marketers do is seen, consumed and fed back to us.
We may not look as good, but we are twice as busy so everything levels out in the end :). If top consulting firms GET and are incorporating REALNESS and transparency in their marketing shouldn't your website? A: Yes.
