Layering InfluenceInfluence forms the new bricks we build Internet marketing with and upon. Influence is trust, intention and aspiration rolled into one. The tricky thing about influence is you can’t manufacturer it, but you need it to manufacture.
Quirky and Threadless only make products that have a built in demand. They use their process as the first ‘product’. Threadless only produces t-shirt designs that make the cut.
Designers ask their friends and family to go like their design. They pour social capital and User Generated Content into Threadless. If that sounds like a brilliant STEALTHIS I agree.
It is one thing to be smart enough to share YOUR process as a product is another level of genius to expose SOMEONE ELSE’S process and use mob wisdom to refine chaos to a popular order and then money.
I was in a meeting with Candace Klein, the “mother of crowndfunding” and founder of Bad Girl Ventures, last week and she shared that she has hundreds of potential product designs on Quirky. She’s made thousands from previous designs so why not. Candace is a great example of a new kind of entrepreneurship.
The Naked EntrepreneurToday’s entrepreneurs don’t want to be slowed down by creating scale. They want to mashup and mesh scale from OPP (Other People’s Platforms). Candace Klien has no problem putting her ideas on Quirky.
Her product ideas are more valuable on Quirky than in her head. She can’t be slowed long enough to create the manufacturing her ideas imply. And why bother. There is already more manufacturing capacity than the world needs.
How Candace Klein won $1.7M in 25 competitions.
Today’s entrepreneurs are “naked”. They want to operate as little heavy machinery as possible. This new generation of entrepreneurs power change with laptops, phones and iPads. To the old school outsider this new entrepreneurship may seem chaotic and strange.
Candace Klein creates so much content, gives it away only to create more and better to then give that away too (or sell it to the highest bidder).
Klein moves from Bad Girl Ventures to SoMoLend in the blink of an eye because one implies and empowers the other. If you are an Internet marketer you see and understand the tapestry Klein weaves picking up speed with each wrap and weft.
Layering InfluenceBy moving fast and layering one business on top of another Candace Klein’s startup tapestry is strong and becoming stronger. Klein's fast feedback loops get richer and chances of turning enough profit to give away some or most is vastly improved.
It may seem strange to old school entrepreneurs to give away what Klein fought so hard to learn and create. Klein's approach isn’t strange to Internet marketers. The web is a series of creative destructions as I noted in How Entropy Is Creating Web 3.0 Under Our Noses.
We lucky few Internet marketers are in sync with Candace’s create and run away rhythm. We are naked entrepreneurs too clinging to a feedback loop and a dream and layering influence as fast as the fastest brick layers can lay bricks :).
