Chess is a rush. Speed chess is a RUSH and a half. Content marketing is a rush too. The more content marketing you do the faster it gets. Regular readers of ScentTrail Marketing will recognize the More and More, Faster and Faster, Better and Better secret shared a few months ago.
Content marketing reminds me of Martin’s Ride To Cure Cancer too. In the summer of 2010 I rode a bicycle across America. The more we rode, I hired a team of 2 to help arrive in Santa Monica healthy and safe, the better we got. After the first month, the trip took 60 days; we didn’t need our bike's computers to know grades or distances. We could SEE grades and knew distances by feel.
When you do something, anything, all day everyday you get better at it. If you played speed chess all day everyday for a year you would be a better speed chess player than you are now. The problem with becoming a better speed chess player is even if you improved by an order of magnitude (100x) that improvement and $4.00 gets you coffee at Starbucks (lol).
On the other hand improving your content marketing slightly could mean millions because:
- Post Google’s Panda and Penguin algorithm changes Content Is Truly KING.
- Content = SEO.
- SEO = Traffic.
- Traffic = Money.
Content Marketing Is Like Speed Chess BecauseLet’s stay with and stretch our analogy a tad. Watch the two minute speed chess video at the top again and more carefully:
What you see is…
- Chess is governed by rules. Rules determine how pieces move.
- Chess is also open to the creativity and interpretation of players.
- Chess demands defense and offense simultaneously and the two are tied together.
- Chess changes with each move and so must be played in the NOW.
- Speed chess requires instant analysis and instincts.
Think of Content Marketing and
What is the goal in chess? Capture the opposing king by leaving the opposing king no move, no option but to be captured, to lose. Due to the inner dynamics of content networks content marketers MUST have the same goal.
Social Networks As Speed Chess
Hubs are larger than average displacements of the network itself. I like to use Einstein's example of Space/Time is warped by planets to create gravity. Like a content hub, a planet bends space/time creating gravity and binding moons to planets.
Bend a content network's "Space/Time" and you win more traffic faster than your competitors. Think such an advantage is worth something? AMZN trades at $258 a share (and that will turn out to be cheap). Jeff Bezos is a billionaire and so it goes inside the coolest, most dynamic game ever created. The speed chess of content network marketing.
Live inside the most dynamic thing man has ever created, our little global content network, gets interesting tomorrow with Why Content Marketing Is Speed Chess Part Two. Part Two exposes the impossible math every Internet marketer faces. If your Internet marketing team is feeling overwhelmed it is with good reason. Part Two shares ways to capture your opponent's king playing the most important speed chess of your life.
